Some common causes of Arm Pain:
Sprain/Strains: usually have a mechanism of injury such as in a sports injury or simply a small fall on an outstretched hand.
Repetitive Stress: Overuse or microtrauma which are smaller stresses applied over time that seem to come from nowhere in particular. These typically occur in the elbow and wrist region. One form common form known to someone who plays tennis or golf would be referred to as “tennis elbow” or “golfers elbow”.
Radicular Pain: Ranges from a sharp pain shooting into the shoulder, elbow, wrist or hand to “pins and needles” tingling or simply in increased or decreased sensation in those areas.
Bursitis/Tendonitis: Is Inflammation of the Bursa(a fluid filled sack) or Tendon(where the muscle attaches to bone) that causes sharp to dull pains depending on the location. Common areas are the shoulder elbow and wrist.
Arthritis: Condition easily described as “wear and tear” to a joint. Simply overuse of a joint over time will create these this condition. Can occur at any bony joint in the arm but common in the shoulder wrist and fingers.
